AREAS OF FOCUS

ENGAGEMENT WITH FBINAA
Like many of you, attending the FBINA was one of the greatest professional experiences of my life second only to serving in the FBI National Academy Associates.  With over 14,000 members, we represent the strongest network of law enforcement leaders in the world. It is an honor to be a part of this mission, but I want to do more.
  1. Increasing active participation from FBINAA members: Only about 14,000 of over 55,000 graduates of the NA are active; there is room for improvement. If elected, my priority will be to extract insights from the National Office’s recent survey on the association to better understand the best practices for retention that can be deployed nationally and at the chapter-level.  The vision of the FBINAA is the “continuous development of the world’s strongest law enforcement leadership network.” Let’s focus on that vision of the future by working hard to grow our membership today.
  2. Enhance Officer Wellness, Resiliency, Recruitment, and Retention: While often considered separately, recruitment and retention and officer wellness and resiliency are interdependent. We must do everything we can to support our incumbent officers, protect this industry, and highlight this noble profession of service. Our greatest strength as the FBINAA is our network of professionals, and I believe through strategic communication, we can create a central repository of best practices, innovative solutions, and proven techniques for officer wellness, retention, and recruitment.
  3. Strengthening Cross-Chapter Knowledge Transfer: : Like many others, the best thing I took home from the FBINAA was the community of professionals developed there. My engagement with the FBINAA during my session and since has allowed me to see firsthand the impressive caliber of resolute law enforcement officers and the sheer brilliance of their innovative approaches to strengthening the profession. From MD/DE’s bourbon barrel fundraiser to Florida’s Christmas auction to SC’s monthly lunch meetings , there are so many fantastic programs out there. The ability to cache these ideas and exchange them across chapters would empower every chapter to learn from the victories of others.
RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION
Recruitment and retention in law enforcement are crucial for maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of police agencies. A robust and diverse recruitment process ensures that law enforcement agencies attract individuals with a range of skills, backgrounds, and perspectives, fostering a more representative and adaptable force. Additionally, high-quality recruitment contributes to the selection of officers who possess strong ethical standards and a commitment to public service. Retention, on the other hand, is essential for sustaining experience and expertise within the force. By cultivating a positive work environment, offering professional development opportunities, and addressing the well-being of officers, agencies can reduce turnover and retain seasoned personnel. A stable and experienced law enforcement workforce is better equipped to build trust within communities, adapt to evolving challenges, and consistently uphold public safety standards.
OFFICER WELLNESS & RESILIENCE
Officer wellness and resilience are vital components of law enforcement effectiveness and community safety. Police officers face significant physical, emotional, and mental challenges in their daily duties, including exposure to trauma, long hours, and high-stress situations. Prioritizing officer wellness and resilience helps mitigate the negative impact of these stressors, reducing the risk of burnout, mental health issues, and misconduct. Moreover, resilient officers are better equipped to make sound decisions under pressure, maintain professional integrity, and foster positive relationships with the communities they serve. Jimmy believes that by investing in the well-being and resilience of officers, law enforcement agencies not only support the individuals within their ranks but also enhance their capacity to uphold public safety and trust.
